The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is a government body in Kenya responsible for managing and overseeing teachers’ employment, registration, and welfare. Registration is mandatory for anyone who wishes to teach in Kenyan schools, ensuring teachers meet the required standards.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Hold a minimum teaching qualification (e.g., a P1 certificate, diploma, or degree in education).
• Have graduated from a recognized institution.
• Meet the character and suitability standards set by TSC.

• Academic and professional certificates (such as KCSE, diploma, or degree certificates)
• Official transcripts
• KRA PIN certificate
• Passport-size photo
• Bank slip or M-Pesa payment receipt for the registration fee
• Certificate of Good Conduct (from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations)

The process typically takes up to 30 days, but delays may occur depending on document verification. TSC will issue a TSC number upon approval.

A TSC number is a unique identifier issued to registered teachers. It is required for employment in public schools and for verification by employers. A teacher cannot work in Kenyan public schools without it.

Log in to your TSC account on the TSC portal to check the registration status. Approved applicants will see their TSC number and receive a registration certificate.

Submit an application for a replacement on the TSC portal, pay a fee, and provide a sworn affidavit explaining the loss or damage of the original certificate.
